High Pointe church came into existence through a dream given to local pastor Duane Bull of Poland. In his main concern to reach the Struthers area with the message of Christ, he helped initiate a series of worship services in Yellowcreek Park in 1987. The services were held in May of that year. Soon, following those initial meetings, interest began to build in the Struthers area and a church was formed.
Founding pastor, Bob Brookhart from Highway Tabernacle, soon took the helm and in June of 1987 Harvest Life Center was officially launched. The church was supported by other area Assemblies of God churches and began meeting in the Yellowcreek recreational building. As the news spread of this new church, it in turn began to grow. In September of 1987 the church relocated to the Struthers High School auditorium. On November 22, Harvest Life Center welcomed 49 new members into its newly formed membership roster.
An office center was secured in Struthers in May of 1988, but the church was still looking for a more permanent home. Then, on November 25, 1988 the Isle of Capri restaurant was purchased, renovated, and the church held its first service on January 29, 1989 with the building being dedicated on April 2, 1989 by Ohio District Superintendent Rev. Robert D. Crabtree. Then in 1989 another change would take place when founding pastor Bob Brookhart, resigned leaving the pastoral office open. A few months later, Pastor Vince Bellanca, from Victory Christian Center became the next Sr. Pastor. Pastor Vince served this body for 2 years and resigned in 1991.
In 1992, present lead pastor, Tony LaGamba was voted in to lead this body to the next level. As the church began to grow, space became a problem. In the winter of 1999, the staff, board and congregation began to search for a new place of worship. The building was sold and facilities were rented to accommodate the transition. In the spring of 2000, Harvest Life’s temporary new home was Struthers Middle School. A year later the church moved again due to a Struthers school building initiative. The church landed at Heartreach ministry on the north side of Youngstown from that time until the fall of 2001. Harvest Life then purchased the present 18 acres of property its sits on today. In the fall of 2002, it rented space at Youngstown Christian School while a new building was being erected. During this time, the church also went through a name change to help identify its new location; High Pointe Assembly. Finally, after 5 years of praying hard, working together, and implementing God’s plan, in June of 2004 the church building was complete and held its first service.
The body here at High Pointe continues to grow, reach, and affect its community for the kingdom’s sake. To God be the glory for the great things He has done.
